Friday December 19th - Sunday december 21st
(5 Performances over 3 days)
Not long until our show!!

Gosport Ice Show has been running every year since the Christmas of 1991. The
original aim of the show was to enhance the children’s confidence of
performing in front of an audience, but it was also an opportunity to
show the skater’s parents how much they had improved over the year. From
this original simple aim, the present format of the show has grown
immensely; not only to allow the skaters to show their skill as
accomplished sports people, but teaches them to work as a team; to a
disciplined structure, and learn that working hard can be fun.
Each year has shown a wide variety of skills, skaters and ages taking part. From
skaters that are new to the discipline, to skaters that have been
practicing for years and have taken the National Ice Skating Association
test structure to very high levels. We have skaters that compete locally
in Gosport Ice Club competitions as well as skaters that compete across
the country. One skater especially has represented England in a national
competition. The age range in our shows is 5 to 70yr olds – with each
and every one of these skaters showing the same amount of enthusiasm.
We started off with one performance at Christmas, and have grown over the years to
5 performances over 3 days. We could not carry out any of these shows
without the help of volunteers, who help backstage putting props onto the
ice, getting skaters onto the ice on time, and not forgetting the people
who control the lights and music. The show involves many different
people, not just the skaters, but also people that have a great interest
in skating – the parents, grandparents and friends of the family, who
all volunteer their time to help the show go on over the 5 performances.
'Who are we?'
The show auditions prospective cast
members in May this year, where the skaters' skill levels vary from those
who have learnt to skate recently to people who have come to the
area, seen a show and decided to be a part of it and those who
return every year having continued to improve, This year the
standard of skater is wide and varied, from Novice to Gold
Standard and this variety is only matched by the age range of
5 to
70,
From our humble start of one show, this
yearly event has grown to 5 shows over 3 days, which is no mean
feat both for skater and helpers,
The Cast, Production team, and Helpers all
learn to work together, recognising that we all have something
to give, The young skaters respect the older skaters and the
older ones encourage them to go that extra yard (or is that
metre?),
At the end of the Sunday night
performance, everyone is exhilarated, tired and thinking, 'how
are we going to better that?'
That is who we are, a bunch of people who
enjoy skating,
